SOLID MECHANICS

Description

1.050 is a sophomore-level engineering mechanics course, generally labelled “Statics and Power of Supplies” or “Strong Mechanics I.” This course introduces college students to the elemental ideas and strategies of structural mechanics. Subjects lined embody: static equilibrium, drive resultants, assist situations, evaluation of determinate planar buildings (beams, trusses, frames), stresses and strains in structural components, states of stress (shear, bending, torsion), statically indeterminate methods, displacements and deformations, introduction to matrix strategies, elastic stability, and approximate strategies. Design workout routines are used to encourage artistic scholar initiative and methods pondering.
